Brazil is the largest country in South America and has one of the most diverse landscapes and cultures of any country in the world. Each region of the country offers something different: from the amazing biodiversity of the Amazon in the north, to the Afro-Brazilian culture of Salvador de Bahia in the Northeast, to the cosmopolitan cities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in the Southeast, there is a little something for everyone.

We have many contacts in a variety of cities and towns in Brazil where your internship will take place. We can take into consideration where you want to be placed but our first concern is to find you something related to your degree, so you must be flexible to where your assignment will be located.

Brazil Culture

The official language of Brazil is Portuguese; and is spoken by more than 99% of the population. Minority languages include indigenous languages, and languages of more recent European and Asian immigrants. The population speaks or signs approximately 210 languages, of which 180 are indigenous. Less than forty thousand people actually speak any one of the indigenous languages in the Brazilian territory. Language is one of the strongest elements of Brazil's national unity

Brazilian cuisine has European, African and Amerindian influences. It varies greatly by region, reflecting the country's mix of native and immigrant populations, and its continental size as well. Some typical dishes are feijoada, considered the country's national dish. The national beverage is coffee, while cachaça is Brazil's native liquor.

Personal Greetings
Brazilians are friendly and free-spirited, with an incredible zest for life. They are very risk-oriented and very creative. Be prepared for lots of skin-on-skin contact! Brazilians will often greet with a kiss or a hug, and both men and women will frequently touch you when speaking, either patting your shoulder or placing their hand on your hand or arm to make a point. In crowds, Brazilians maintain much less physical distance than North Americans normally find comfortable.

Brazilians know how to throw a party on a mammoth scale and make other festivals look like small conventions. The Carnival of Brazil is an annual festival held between the Friday afternoon (51 days before Easter) and Ash Wednesday at noon, which marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period before Easter.
