Introduction to Canadian Education System
Bachelor’s Degree
• Bachelor’s degree are usually 4-year in length at both colleges and universities.
• Student with a 2/3-year diploma program from a college can transfer their diploma credits into bachelor’s degree in Canada or in the UK.
• An administrative fee of approximately $100 is associated to all applications.
• Universities have only one intake for bachelor programs i.e. September.
• Depending on the universities, the application deadline varies from programs to programs
• IELTS with an overall band of 6.0 and with no section with less than 5.5 is required.
• Universities offer number of scholarships at undergraduate level.
Master’s Degree
• Master’s degree, generally, are from 16 months to 24 months (2 years). However, very few universities may be offering Master’s program for ONE year.
• There is an administrative fee associated to all application approximately $100.
• Canadian universities strictly follow deadlines. Mostly the application deadline would be in first quarter of the year, for September intakes.
• On an average, universities can take up to 12-week in making decision on application.
• IELTS with an overall band of 7.0 and with no section with less than 6.5 is highly recommendable
• Number of scholarships available at postgraduate level at universities as well through external resources. These scholarships may vary from $1,000 to full tuition fee. The scholarship application process is very competitive and time sensitive.
Post Secondary Diploma (2/3 years)
• These post-secondary diploma programs are from 2 to 3 years in a college.
• Student with a 2/3-year diploma program from a college can transfer their diploma credits into bachelor’s degree in Canada or in the UK.
• An administrative fee of approximately $100 is associated to all applications.
• Colleges require high School certificate for diploma program with an overall 60% marks and above. However, it varies from colleges to colleges and program to program.
• IELTS with an overall band of 6.0 and with no section with less than 5.5 is required.
Post Graduate Certificate/Diploma (1/2 years)
• These post graduate diploma programs are from 1 to 2 years in a college.
• Student gets more hands-on training opportunities at college.
• An administrative fee of approximately $100 is associated to all applications.
• Colleges require Bachelor’s (3 years) or more for a post graduate diploma program with an overall 60% marks and above. However, it varies from colleges to colleges and program to program.
• IELTS with an overall band of 6.5 and with no section with less than 6.0 is required.
